Southern Crusty Cornbread

Dry Ingredients:

1 cup yellow cornmeal
½ cup flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt

Other Ingredients:

1 large egg, beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1 tbsp. vegetable oil

Combine dry ingredients, mix well. Add egg, buttermilk, and oil. Stir until smooth. Grease an 8 x 8 glass or ceramic baking dish with shortening. Pour batter into dish and bake at 400 degrees until golden brown. Cut into squares.
